Guiding Light
Guiding Light is a 2D platformer prototype built around a single question: what happens when sight has a cost?
You carry a torch through a cave. Holding Z lights it, revealing the world. Releasing Z plunges you back into darkness. Oil burns continuously while the torch is lit — and it's finite. There are no checkpoints. Oil carries across all three levels.
Every act of seeing costs something. The whole game is the discipline of restraint.
Three levels, three layers:
- Level 1 — Static hazards. Learn to ration light against spike rocks and pits.
- Level 2 — Stalactites with audio cues. Time your passage; the world now changes while you watch.
- Level 3 — Monsters that chase when lit, and become solid platforms when dark. The same light that reveals the world invites pursuit.
Controls: Arrow keys to move. Space to jump. Hold Z for light.
A solo prototype exploring how a single mechanic can produce a layered emotional experience. Built in Unity 6.3, ~3 weeks.
